About our programs

Hillside School and Learning Center offers a variety of programs, both academic and support, that strive to enhance, individualize, and optimize the learning process

Hillside School
Hillside School offers students in grades 7-12 a unique program in which they learn for success. Small class size, a safe environment, innovative teaching approaches, and participatory learning are the key to helping students.

Students may attend Hillside School full time, or part-time in a carefully coordinated dual-enrollment option with another public or private school

We are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the California State Department of Education. Our curriculum meets the admissions standards of the University of California schools and colleges and universities locally and nationally, while also satisfying eligibility standards of the NCAA. In addition to the core courses required to meet these standards, we offer a comprehensive suite of hands-on elective courses.

Support services include an academic counselor, psychologist, educational psychologist, tutoring, and educational therapy.

Night School
Hillside's night school offers classes that provide academic courses needed by students at public and private schools who have conflicting work obligations, sports activities, or who wish to take an elective that's offered at the same time as a required academic course. These classes, while small in size, tend to be structured more like a college course and students should be self-motivated.

Summer School
During the summer, Hillside summer school offers students in grades 9-12 opportunities similar to those offered by our night and day school. A one-year is taught, intensively, over a six week time period. The keys to student success in this program are small class size and highly individualized attention. Students are required to do substantial homework in order to cover the material and pass the class.

Educational Therapy
A program for all ages. Educational therapy helps students grasp the underlying learning skills and discover the learning stragegy and application of skills that works best for them. Grades improve, and students gain the self-confidence needed to be successful. This one-on-one, twice weekly program is truly "learning for success."

Assessments
Educational testing or assessing a student's academic processing skills is one way to create a roadmap for optimizing learning strategies and setting attainable goals. Testing gives parents and teachers insight into how the student processes information, which helps in the selection of teaching strategies. This assessment is given by an educational psychologist. Fees vary depending on the extent of the evaluation.

Special Courses and Programs
